Throughout the evening, I was moved to tears many times. Precious moments: thoughtful gifts made in the memory of loved ones, children giving what they can (sometimes in the form of cupcakes or upside down cakes) to support the school they attend, and a community rallying together for a common goal... the night was simply magical. Words cannot begin to adequately express my sincere gratitude for the night that was. I shared the news about our event with Marquette's newest teachers joining us for the 2022-2023 school year, with a prospective family that contacted me late last week, and with family and friends back in my hometown. I told them, "If you want to see a Catholic school that people believe in, tune in at any point." As the bell rang out a final time, more than $150,000 was raised to support our school and our mission, with people giving from all over the United States for Marquette. My appreciation is shared by all of our teachers, staff members, and students. As we shared in our broadcast, "Marquette is a 'best kept secret' - a growing small Catholic School in rural Iowa - and now it is time to let the secret out." Folks, you did just that. After Saturday, I know our school's name is being said in Seattle, Houston, New York and other cities where people joined us and watched history. For 10 hours, I shared stories of the classroom, of the dedication of our teachers, and of successes through the years. I never tired or ran out of things to say... and how could I? There is still so much I want to share about how this school continues to defy the odds because of people like you who continue to support us. Now, however, my words only speak of thanks. Thanks be to God for our school and the generations before us that made us strong. Thanks be to God for the continued efforts through the years. Thanks to you for answering the call. Although the night is over, the magic lives on. This morning, as I prayed with our students and teachers during Lent, I am reminded again of our vision that we are dedicated to living out each day: Marquette Catholic Schools will stand as a beacon of academic excellence by offering diverse and innovative educational opportunities unique to the Bellevue area that are rooted in the virtues of the Catholic faith. You give us a better opportunity to do this. |
